Faux (Decorative) Finishing
There are many types of faux finishing techniques: Colorwash: Used to imitate old paint and plaster. Acrylic or Latex Scumble: To make less brilliant by covering with a thin coat of opaque or semiopaque color. Oil Glaze Scumble: Offers a more transparent effect than acrylic or latex. Faux Leather: Derived from 17th and 18th Century gilt leather of Dutch or Italian origin. Used on walls, coffered ceilings or folding screens. Faux Marble: Imitation marble executed in Scandinavian style, more transparent than European style. Faux Bronze: Limited to accessories such as lamps and architectural details such as columns. Verdigris: Faux technique used to imitate green or bluish deposits on aged metal surfaces. Tortoiseshell: Imitation of real tortoiseshell used during the Renaissance. Antiquing: A surface coating that gives the appearance of instant age. Used on mouldings, cabinets, and furniture.
